Sheena's Birds

This bold, sweet design features an image from one of the newly released Sheena's A Little Bit Sketchy line. I find her new release quite artsy. There's so many things you can do with birds! I chose to highlight these cute little birds on a limb from the Sheena's A Little Bit Sketchy EZMount Stamp Set - King For A Day

I stamped the images onto vellum cardstock and allowed it to dry completely - you can see where I smudged a little. I was ready to color - the ink was not. :) I then colored them with my Spectrum Noir Blendable Colored Pencils. I started with the branch and used 092. I held the pencil close to the tip and gave a bit of firm pressure for the darker areas - the outside of the branch. For the center of the branch, I used a light touch

Next, I chose colors for the birds - I wanted them to be bright and fun - 013, 048, 065, 086, 071. I laid down all the colors on one bird, without blending.

Then came back in with 065, my lightest blue to blend all the colors. I used a light touch and a combination of flicking lines in the direction of the feathers and also small circles to blend.

I ran the vellum cardstock through my Xyron sticker maker, adhered to a piece of  Ultra Smooth Premium White Cardstock and fussy cut out the birds. For the background layer, I used  Ultra Smooth Premium White Cardstock and the  6" X 6" Embossalicious Embossing Folder - Clouds to create the illusion of big fluffy clouds behind the birds.

On the inside I added a sentiment from Sheena's A Little Bit Sketchy EZMount Stamp Set - Free As A Bird. I added color with 048 and 071.

Scruffy Little Cat June Release

Today, I'm featuring images from one of the new June Scruffy Little Cat sets.
The images are from the AAMIRA set.

I stamped this lovely woman image onto Ultra Smooth Premium White Cardstock and also onto design cardstock I printed from Sheena A Taste of India - Video Resource CD.  Click here to see additions I added to design cardstock.

Starting with her skin, I colored the darker areas first using Spectrum Noir Blendable Colored Pencils, 085. I held the pencil close to the tip and used some pressure to get a darker color - no need to push hard, just some pressure.

Next, I used the same pencil, holding it further from the tip and applying a light pressure to fill in color. I also added some blush with 034

To get a very smooth blend, I touched the tip of a Spectrum Noir Paper Stump into Spectrum Noir Blending Solution and lightly moved in a circular motion to cover her whole face, including her eye lids and lips. TIP: I put my blending solution into a small plastic container (from my grocery store in the trial size personal care isle) with a piece of a sponge. I touch the tip of the stump on the sponge so I don't completely soak the tip.  I find a smaller amount of solution provides a smoother blend. If too much is on the tip, it removes color.

I continued to color using the method of coloring the darkest area first holding my pencil close to the tip and coloring the lightest area hold my pencil further from the tip and blending in small circles with a light touch - either with the lightest color pencil or a stump and blending solution.  I added shading to her clothing and perfume bottle on the design paper.  I also darkened her pupil with a black pen so they would really show.

Colors used:
skin: 085, 034 (blending solution)
eyes: 103
eye lids: 071, 119
lips: 039, 041
shading on design cardstock clothing and perfume bottle: 020, 026, 090 (blending solution)
packages:  020, 026, 034, 039, 041, 071, 090 (blending solution)
jewelry: 026

I cut out her clothing and perfume pieces from the design cardstock, edged them with a black water-based marker, and adhered them with Collall's Tacky-Glue to the base image. TIP: When paper piecing, to help fill in any areas where scissor cutting was not accurate, thicken the black line and/or add color to the area.

For final touches, I used a gold opaque pen to add detail to her clothing and to the perfume bottle.  Stickles gave her jewelry bling.

On the inside I added one of the sentiments from the set and a piece of design cardstock.

Sent With Love

Sharing a card I made using supplies from the Crafter's Inspiration - Issue 4 Spring Edition

Everything was all colored for me - all I had to do was assemble. :)  The  background design paper and sentiment are also from the kit.  I stamped the sentiment with Memento Luxe Ink Pad - Wedding Dresssprinkled with emboss powder and heat set. I used the embossing folder that also came with the kit to add some dimension to the design paper. I added a touch of bling to the lion's nose with Stickles . I love the sweet image!

The little giraffe was from my animal stash in my button draw. I popped him up with Double Sided Adhesive Foam Circles.

Watercolored Mandala

Today, I'm sharing one of my favorite coloring techniques - watercoloring with water-based markers. The images are from Sheena A Taste of India EZMount Stamp Set - Mandala

I stamped the lovely mandala image onto watercolor paper using a Delicata Golden Glitz ink pad, sprinkled with emboss powder and heat set.   The background is a digital design paper from Sheena A Taste of India - Video Resource CD printed onto Ultra Smooth Premium White Cardstock. To tie in the gold from the main image, I stamped a small image from the set randomly with a Delicata Golden Glitz ink pad.

Next, I colored with Tombow Dual Brush Pens, which are water-based. I used the direct method of applying color and then I spread the color with a water-brush. I started with a clean water-brush, damp not saturated, in the lightest areas and moved to darkest, working in one area at a time.

I edged the design paper layer with a gold leaf pen, colored in leaves and added centers to the flowers.

On the inside, I stamped the sentiment from the set and added a flower cut out from the design paper.
