Crafter's Companion October Challenge - Buttons and Bows

This month's Crafter's Companion Challenge theme is Buttons and/or Bows (use them on your card).  

My design today features one of my favorite coloring mediums - Spectrum Noir Ink Refills. The images are from Camden Town EZMount Stamp Set - Female 2. 

Whenever I create backgrounds, I make a few. I figure while I'm getting my hands dirty, might as well make it worth it!  Of course, there is the option of gloves. I always think about that later... I'm too busy picking out the colors I want to use. 

The dark, rich background below was created with Spectrum Noir Ink Refills BT6, LV3, TB5, TB9. I laid out two pieces paper / cardstock, opened each ink refill, spritzed alcohol on one piece and dropped color. NOTE: I work in that order because the the inks and alcohol will dry fast. I worked with one type of of paper at a time.  

I picked up the piece and tilted it to move the color. I also spritzed more alcohol to encourage more blending and coverage.  Next I "kissed" a clean piece together with the colored piece to blend the colors even more, and also gives you a second background - mirror image. I dropped too much color on the yupo paper and dabbed with a paper towel after the kiss. The paper towel added some texture.

For the next set of backgrounds, I used lighter colors in the mix - Spectrum Noir Ink Refills BT1, BT6, LV1, TB3. I did not use a paper towel.

After they all dried, I chose which piece I wanted to use for my final design. I used a stamp positioner to pick out the area for my dress and stamped with an India ink pad - it is alcohol ink friendly.

I also stamped the dress image on a piece of Ultra Smooth Premium White Cardstock and colored the hanger and ribbon with Spectrum Noir Markers LV1. I used Collall All Purpose Glue to adhere the dress, ribbon, and buttons - this is my new favorite liquid adhesive! It is great for adhering down tiny items as well as items where you need a little time to adjust.

January Crafter's Companion Challenge - Hearts

This month's Crafter's Companion Challenge Blog theme is Hearts.  I'm featuring images from Sentimentals EZMount Stamp Set - Love is all you need and Camden Town EZMount Stamp Set - Female 2. 

I stamped the campaign image onto Ultra Smooth Premium White Cardstock. I moved the heart die cut over the image until I found the piece the I wanted.  

I colored with my Spectrum Noir Markers. I used a combination of direct coloring to the cardstock and also tip to tip.  As you lay the color on the cardstock, the color starts out as dark and a natural blending occurs as the marker returns to its lighter color. I used a glitter pen to add some sparkle to the glasses and edged the pieces with a gold metallic paint pen. The sentiment is stamped with a Delicata Golden Glitz Ink Pad.

For a final touch, I drew the little hearts on the tag, colored with my Spectrum Noir Markers and added Stickles Distress Glitter Glue - Fired Brick to the flowers on the glasses.

Bright, Vibrant Background

My design today has a bright, vibrant background and features images  from the Camden Town EZMount Stamp Set - Male 2.

 I started with the background, using Memento re-inkers on Ultra High Gloss White Cardstock. I dropped colors in one section at a time, spritzed water, then blew the color around with a straw. I really dig the vibrant colors. 

Next, I stamped the bike image from the set onto water color paper, sprinkled emboss powder and heat set.  I colored them with  the the re-inkers. I dropped color onto a pallet and used a paintbrush dipped in water to apply.

Enjoy Friends

On August 1st, Crafter's Companion will be announcing some exciting news!! Please come back tomorrow to see what it is - there'll also be some blog candy - woo hoo!! :o)  

 The deign I'm sharing today was inspired by a shopping trip with my sister-in-law, Terry, years ago. First she encouraged me to buy an orange skirt, then Terry told me I had to have orange shoes to go with the skirt. I said to her, "what else can I wear these orange shoes with? Why would I buy one pair of shoes to go with one outfit?" Her response in a very confident tone, "we're women...that's what we do." And so, I bought  those orange shoes. 

I am  featuring images from  Camden Town EZMount Stamp Set - Female 2.  I stamped the classy shoe image onto Ultra Smooth Premium White Cardstock for Alcohol Markers and colored it with my Spectrum Noir Markers - OR1, CR7, CR8, CR10, IG7, IG9, IG10.  After coloring, I cut it out.

I found a brad in my stash that had the color stone I wanted to use, but was silver. I colored the silver with my black SN Pen.

I used Distress Ink pads and a blending tool with foam to blend color on a circle background for the classy shoe.

I also blended color on to the words I cut out with a punch. I used OR1 to fill in color on each letter. Now that is "girlfriend card" if I ever saw one! :o)

New Camden Town Release!

Crafter's Companion has just released the new Camden Town sets -  available right now!



My design features images from the Male 1 set.

I stamped the images onto Ultra Smooth Premium White Cardstock for Alcohol Markers and colored them with my Spectrum Noir Markers. I used a combination of direct coloring to the cardstock and also pallet coloring - scribble color onto an acrylic block and pick up with a lighter color. As you lay the color on the cardstock, a natural blending occurs.  To see a video of palette blending, click here. 

After I colored, I cut a slit in the roof of the van to carry the beer. There's no way they would get in the back to take to the cook out. :o) I adhered it all down on the front of the card and wrote "woo hoo" on the itty big tag.  I used a punch to cut out the sentiment.

On the inside I added a strip of design paper and colored one more bottle.
