Mixed Media Background

My design today features several different ways to add color and dimension to your art work.

To make the background, I started with adding pieces of masking tape to Ultra Smooth Premium White Cardstock. Next I used a low temp glue gun to add some swirls.  I used a paintbrush to add a coat of gesso over it.

For the first layer of color, I scribbled color with Gelatos. .

I started spreading color with a wet paintbrush, but then switched to my finger. I liked that much better. I found I had more control for blending.

After it dried, I sprayed some Fireworks! colors, Pear Tart, Grape Jelly and Danube Blue. I sprayed one at a time at one end of the cardstock and then tilted it around to allow the color to drip and blend. When needed, I spritzed a small amount of water to help the color move.  I really dig the texture of the gesso underneath the color and the shimmer of the spray inks!

Next, I used a variety of techniques to incorporate gold into the design. I used a pointed cotton tip and metallic alcohol ink to add gold highlight to the raised areas. I stamped Sheena's A Little Bit Sketchy EZMount Stamp Set - Ageing Beautifully images with Delicata Golden Glitz Ink Pad

The focal image is from Sheena A6 EZMount™ Xmas Stamps - Welcome Home stamped onto  Ultra Smooth Premium White Cardstock with Delicata Golden Glitz Ink Pad.  To glue the image on the textured background, I used Collall's Tacky-Glue.

On the inside, I lightly stamped the heart image several times and adhered a strip of the background design.

Shout Out: This design was inspired by a video Patti Parrish did. I just love watching her create. She's so talented, so fun, and so real!

Sparkly and Shimmery Lanterns

I've gone spray happy! In my design today, I'm featuring Fireworks Sprays and images from Sheena A Little Bit Oriental EZMount Stamp Set - Lanterns

I inked up the images with a VersaMark Watermark Ink Pad, stamped them onto Ultra Smooth Premium White Cardstock, sprinkled with clear embossing powder and heat. Next I lightly sprayed color - Dandelion, Rose Bud, Danube Blue. They are rich in color, you do not need much, they blend nicely, AND they sparkle and shimmer! I dabbed color off the embossed images with a clean paper towel.

After the ink dried, I trimmed to size and lightly sprayed  Pear Tart. It added another layer of shimmery effect. I used a white gel pen to add a line the lanterns are hanging from. The background embossed layer is Sheena Embossing Folders 5" x 7" - Lanterns. I ran it through my eBosser

On the inside I stamped more images from the set. I used a Memento Ink pad rose bud and stamped off for the lanterns.

New Sheena Release!

Sheena has new two new sets coming out Hidden Stars and Underwater Angels!!

The technique that came to my mind for how to use these images is Encaustic Painting!  I created the background first onto High Gloss Cardstock. To see a quick video on beginning Encaustic Painting, click here.

Next, I stamped the images onto Ultra Smooth Premium White Cardstock and colored them with my Spectrum Noir Markers. I used a combination of direct coloring to the cardstock and also tip to tip. As you lay the color on the cardstock, a natural blending occurs.

fish 1: Blender, CT1, OR1, OR2, GB6
fish 2: CT1, OR1, TB1, TB4
seahorse: LV1, LV2, LV3

After coloring I cut out each image, edged them with a black water-based marker, and glued  them down with Collall's Tacky-Glue

Koi in Gold

I inked up the images with a Delicata Golden Glitz ink pad, stamped onto watercolor paper, sprinkled emboss powder and heat set.

Next, I colored with Tombow Dual Brush Pens, using the direct method of applying color and then spreading the color with a water-brush. I started with a clean water-brush, damp not saturated, in the lightest areas and moved to darkest.

For the water and sky, I used a combination of the above technique and also the indirect technique of scribbling color onto a palette, picking up color and spreading.

The background design paper is from A Little Bit Oriental - Papercrafting Collection - Luxury Designer Paper Pad.  I added a sentiment and small lily from the set.

On the inside I used a piece of the colored watercolor paper and stamp the the small lily.

New Bebunni Sneak Peek!

More Bebunni images are coming! My project today, features an image and sentiment from the upcoming new Bebunni Love sets.
This set is called Perfect Couple

I stamped the images onto Ultra Smooth Premium White Cardstock and colored them with my Spectrum Noir Markers. On the bunnies, I dotted in a section BG1, then came back in with the Blender and dotted over the BG1. It softens the color and provides some texture at the same time.  I used one of the Spectrum Noir Brush Nibs in my Blender.

Spectrum Noir Brush Nibs - 3 Pack fits New Pen Design

Colors used:
bunny: BlenderBG1, BG2,  PP1, PP2
heart: PP1, PP2, PP4

I drew a heart around one of the sentiments in the set and cut it out. On the back of the card, I stamped the little 'handmade' image. What a cute all around set!

January Crafter's Companion Challenge - Hearts

I stamped the campaign image onto Ultra Smooth Premium White Cardstock. I moved the heart die cut over the image until I found the piece the I wanted.

I colored with my Spectrum Noir Markers. I used a combination of direct coloring to the cardstock and also tip to tip.  As you lay the color on the cardstock, the color starts out as dark and a natural blending occurs as the marker returns to its lighter color. I used a glitter pen to add some sparkle to the glasses and edged the pieces with a gold metallic paint pen. The sentiment is stamped with a Delicata Golden Glitz Ink Pad.

For a final touch, I drew the little hearts on the tag, colored with my Spectrum Noir Markers and added Stickles Distress Glitter Glue - Fired Brick to the flowers on the glasses.
