May Flowers...

Flowers is the theme for May at the Crafter's Companion Challenge Blog.    You can pop over to participate and win some fun prizes!!

My project features the versatile tulip set by Sheena Douglass.  There are many ways to color it!  Today, I chose watercolor. I'm using  Tombow Dual Brush Pens to color. I just love this effect!

First I inked up the images with metallic gold, stamped onto hot pressed water color paper,  sprinkled with embossing powder and heat set.  I used super fine emboss powder. A thin layer stayed on the paper and I just colored right over it.

Next I started coloring!  I used the direct to paper technique. I colored directly onto the paper, inside one embossed section at a time. I then spread the color with a water brush - starting in the lightest area.  I started with a clean brush for each new section.  As you can see, I did not worry about coloring outside the lines. :o) I knew I was going to cut out the pieces.

For the background,  I used the indirect method onto Ultra Smooth Premium White Cardstock for Alcohol Markers.  Although it's not "watercolor' paper, it has a nice weight and holds a small amount liquid well. I discovered this when I used it for a Spectrum Noir Marker technique. I scribbled blue and lavender markers onto a plastic palette, picked up color with a wide tip water brush and brushed across the sky.  After it dried, I trimmed it with a gold leafing pen.

I cut out all the pieces and laid them on the card to see where I wanted to place every thing.  I drew in the stems and cut the leaves to fit.  I put the fourth flower and a leaf piece on the inside to carry the theme forward.

Thank you for visiting!!

Take care and STAY POSITIVE!
