Colorful, Textured Background with New Spectrum Noir Blendable Colored Pencils

My design today features a fun, cool technique with the fabulous new Spectrum Noir blendable colored pencils!

The background starts with pouring white gesso onto a piece of  Ultra Smooth Premium White Cardstock. I used an old credit card to move the color around and fill the page. Next, I took a clean piece of card stock and gently 'kissed it' to the gesso'd piece, I gave it a little twist then pulled it apart slowly. Viola! Two pieces of textured cardstock

After they dried completely, I colored with a variety of Spectrum Noir blendable colored pencils. Next, I poured a small amount of blending solution onto a paper towel and gently rubbed it over the pencil and gesso to blend the colors together.

Background 1 - 012,045, 048, 054.

Background 2 - 071, 075, 082, 083

I stamped the flower image from Sheena's A Little Bit Sketchy EZMount Stamp Set - Bloomin' Beautiful three times and colored them with Spectrum Noir blendable colored pencilsI started with the pedals using the lightest color, 023 - laying down full color in each pedal.

Using the stamped image as my guide, I colored with the darkest color, 093.

Time for blending! I used a light touch coloring in small circles. I used 023 and 025 to blend between the light and dark colors.  TIP: when I am coloring light colors and when blending, I tend to hold my pencil further away from the tip to lighten the pressure.  When I am coloring dark areas, I tend to hold my pencil closer to the tip so I can really press the color into the paper. Also, one really cool feature about working these lovely blendable pencils is they are a dry medium - so you can easily come back in later and add darker color and continue to blend until you are happy.  You can also erase if you color too dark or color in an area you did not intend too.

I used the method above to color two additional flowers.  For the center, I used 018 and 024. I cut out the images, edged them with a black water-based marker and slightly bent the pedals up.

I put Collall's Tacky-Glue in the centers.  The sentiment is from Sheena's A Little Bit Sketchy EZMount Stamp Set - True Colors.  I lightly colored over it with 083 and blended it with a tiny bit of baby oil on a paper towel. I just love how it turned out!

Here's a photo of all the colors I used.

Shout Out:  I took an on-line pencil basics class from Dina and got some great tips on coloring and blending. The class along with having quality blend-able pencils helped me to achieve the results I wanted!
